Dec, 2001 : BellSouth to Outsource Applications Software to Accenture
📅 - Accenture (accenture.com) and BellSouth Corporation (bellsouth.com) announced today that Accenture will manage additional applications and projects for the software backbone of BellSouth's telephone and Internet services, under an expansion of an existing outsourcing agreement between the two companies.
The expanded agreement, which includes an extension of the original contractto 2007 and takes effect January 1, covers a range of information technologyapplications that support BellSouth's local and Internet-basedcommunications services to residential and business customers in the UnitedStates.
In 1998, BellSouth selected Accenture to help it achieve improved servicelevels, on-budget performance and on-time delivery. As an expansion of thatagreement, Accenture will support numerous applications, including customercare, network, billing, marketing, finance, Web services, human resourcesand payroll, across all of BellSouth's operations in the United States.Approximately 275 of BellSouth's IT professionals will become Accentureemployees.
"This agreement will take our relationship with BellSouth to a new level aswe share the risks and gains and collaborate not just to provide top-notchsupport, but to help transform business processes for competitive advantagein an accelerated timeframe," said Joe W. Forehand, Accenture chairman andCEO.
"Information technology plays a critical role in enabling BellSouth toachieve its strategic goals of entering the long distance business, rapidlyexpanding DSL subscriptions and aggressively managing costs," said FranDramis, BellSouth's chief information and e-commerce officer. "Having workedsuccessfully together in the past to meet business and technologyobjectives, we are confident Accenture can help us meet these goals."
