Dec, 2001 : Copper Mountain Releases New DSL Concentrator Line

📅 - Copper Mountain Networks, Inc. (coppermountain.com), aprovider of broadband access solutions, today announced a new productrelease for its CopperEdge 200 and CopperEdge 150 Digital Subscriber LineConcentrators. New features for Copper Mountain's CopperEdge broadbandaccess platform include a G.shdsl Line Card and T1/ E1 IMA (InverseMultiplexing over ATM) WAN module, subscriber interface rate limiting, andenhancements to its existing IP virtual routing capabilities that make itconfiguration-free and allow for per-flow QoS.

The new 24-port G.shdsl Line Card meets the international G.991.2 ITUstandard, supports variable symmetric rates from 192 kbps to 2.3 Mbps, andoffers improvements in service reach and rates over conventional SDSLtechnology. The eight-port T1/E1 IMA wide area network module enablescarriers deploying CopperEdge 200 or CopperEdge 150 Concentrators to servesmaller markets where higher speed WAN facilities would be underused andhave higher recurring monthly costs.
The new subscriber interface rate-limiting feature enables broadbandproviders to specify a maximum rate of both upstream and downstream trafficflows on DSL lines so as to enforce traffic contracts and Service LevelAgreements. Copper Mountain's virtual routing capability has been enhancedto autolearn subscriber IP addresses based on the widely used DHCP standard.Doing so both automates configuration of subscriber services and obviatesthe need for IP routing protocols in the access network, thus improvingnetwork manageability and scalability. Additionally, IP packets can beclassified on a per-packet basis and given differential QoS treatment, allowing multiple, differentiated IP services concurrently in a singlesubscriber VC.
"The CopperEdge platform's IP service intelligence has enabled us tocost-effectively provision and easily scale value-added services for ourcustomers," said Roger Pachuta, senior vice president of network servicesfor Mpower Communications. "The enhancements to virtual routing furtherextend the IP capabilities of the CopperEdge by completely automating theconfiguration of subscriber services and customer premise equipment."
