Jan, 2002 : Equinix Opens Seventh and Largest IBX Center

📅 January 30, 2002 - Equinix, Inc. (equinix.com), a provider of core Internetexchange services, yesterday announced the opening of its seventh andlargest Internet Business Exchange (IBX) center, located in the New Yorkmetropolitan area. AT&T, WorldCom and Verizon are among the first networksavailable to customers of the new IBX center.

The opening of the center, located in Secaucus, N.J., came at a time whenEquinix's center in Newark, N.J. is near capacity. "Since opening our NewarkIBX center in 2000, Equinix has experienced solid demand for strategicInternet exchange services as companies seek to leverage the reliability,scalability and cost benefits of Equinix services," said Peter Van Camp,chairman and CEO of Equinix. "Today, across our seven centers, more than 65of the world's top networks and five of the top seven Web sites have builtEquinix services into their Internet operations in order to enhance theperformance of their core services," said Van Camp.
In addition to its size and strategic location in Northern New Jersey, theSecaucus IBX center allows customers to fully customize their presence.Equinix will work closely with customers to design the cabinet, power,network connectivity and other configurable requirements.
The new 200,000 square-foot center brings Equinix's total footprint to over800,000 square feet nationwide, and completes the company's fully-funded IBXbuild-out plan. In addition to its two IBX centers in the greater New Yorkarea, Equinix operates IBX centers in the Washington, D.C., Silicon Valley,Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas areas.
