Feb 11, 2002 : Interland Purchases CommuniTech.Net

📅 February 11, 2002 - Interland Inc. (interland.com ), one of the industry's largest providers of Web hosting for small and mediums-sized businesses, announced today that it had purchased Missouri-based hosting firm CommuniTech.Net. Terms of the deal were not released.
The acquisition is Interland's third in four months. In October, the company purchased the shared and retail Web hosting business of Interliant. In late January, the company bought AT&T's shared and dedicated hosting accounts related to small business.
CommuniTech.Net currently serves nearly 20,000 organizations in more than 140 countries, and has a 4800 square-foot data center. Atlanta-based Interland, which merged with HostPro last year, manages more than 300,000 Web sites.
"[CommuniTech.Net has] one of the most impressive businesses, both from a model and operating standpoint, in the industry," said Joel J. Kocher, Chairman and CEO of Interland.
The purchase differs from Interland's two previous acquisitions because the company is acquiring both CommuniTech.Net's accounts and assets, whereas Interland only purchased hosting accounts from AT&T and Interliant. Gabriel Murphy, CommuniTech.Net's founder and President, is expected to join Interland management.
Kocher said the purchase was geared toward improving the company's Unix and customer technology platforms, both of which are strengths of CommuniTech.Net. "We get the things that CommuniTech.Net does well as well as Gabriel, his management group and the skills that are represented by that," Kocher said. "CommuniTech gets the benefits of the scale and the capital that Interland brings to bear on the market. We like the combination a whole lot... the two companies together can do some great things."
Kocher also said Interland would continue to make additional acquisitions in an effort to increase the company's size and scale. "We're going to continue to acquire businesses in our quest to be the industry consolidator," he said.
