📅 - EasyNet (easynet.com), a pan-European ISP, has cut 90 jobs or10 percent of its total workforce from its wholesale division, blaming the"cautious operating environment in wholesale capacity." The cuts are part ofa cost-cutting strategy which says will save it around £10 million per year.
Despite the announcement, the company is optimistic about the rest of theyear's prospects, reported the UK's Register. It says that DSL is the"cornerstone" for its strategy, adding more than 9,000 new broadbandconnections last year resulting in a threefold increase in monthly revenuesfrom DSL, up from £3.3 million in Jan. 2001 to £9.6 million a month by Dec.2001.
As one of the few remaining companies still engaged in local loopunbundling, EasyNet says it is already attracting customers, and has so farunbundled more than 160 lines from nine exchanges.
"DSL is expected to be the engine of revenue growth for the business in thenext few years," said chairman and CEO David Rowe. "Progress in sellingbroadband Internet access to businesses has been very promising and we arestarting to see the fruits of our ongoing investment in local loopinfrastructure with the first London exchanges operational and businesscustomers signing up in increasing numbers."
