Jul 12, 2004 : Hosts Continue Growth, Netcraft Says

📅 July 12, 2004 - Web hosting providers continued to grow in June, but at slower rates than in the previous five months, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft's (netcraft.com) hosting provider switching analysis. Netcraft's data showed that in June, the hosting providers with the ten largest net gains added 366,000 hostnames. This was in contrast to the average of 731,000 hostnames added between January and May.

GoDaddy (godaddy.com ) was the largest gainer in June, according to Netcraft, adding 64,017 hostnames. 1&1 Internet (oneandone.com -> ionos.com) was second with 49,376 new hostnames added, while Datasync (datasync.com), Easynet (easynet.com -> gtt.net) and NTT Communications (ntt.com) were third to fifth, adding 43,858, 38,895 and 30,475 hostnames respectively. Tect AG (tect.de), The Planet (theplanet.com -> softlayer.com -> ibm.com), Deutsche Telekom (telekom.de -> ionos.de), NewDotNet (newdotnet.com) and Lasvegas.net (lasvegas.net) rounded out the top ten.
While GoDaddy was the fastest growing host in absolute terms, NewDotNet and NTT Communications grew at the fastest rates, both in the neighborhood of 60 percent. 1&1 Internet exceeded 4 million hostnames for the first time.
