VitalStream To Host Web Site for Mountain Climbing Expedition

(vitalstream.com -> inap.com), a leading provider of customized solutions for digital broadcasting, announced on Monday that it will host the Microsoft SharePoint Team Services (STS) Web site involved in the latest expedition of leading American high-altitude mountaineer Ed Viesturs (annapurna2002.com).
Viesturs, says VitalStream, will use the Web site as part of his project, Endeavor 8,000, to climb the 14 highest mountains in the world, each above 8,000 meters, without the use of supplemental oxygen. In March, Viesturs and his multinational team will attempt number 13, the 8,091-meter Himalayan Annapurna.
According to VitalStream, the site will enable collaboration between team members in multiple countries, providing them with the ability to prepare for the climb by communicating electronically to share information and develop route documents, lists and itineraries. Through the STS Web site, friends and family members will be able to watch the team's progress during the climb, as well as view footage from the expedition and communicate via e-mail.
"We are pleased that VitalStream agreed to host the Endeavor 8000 team Web site for Ed Viesturs and his climbing team," says Gytis Barzdukas, group product manager of the Business Portal Group at Microsoft. VitalStream says it was selected as a partner for the STS Web site, to provide the hosting services essential to the operation. The company says it believes in the efforts of Microsoft to put technology in the hands of people in non-traditional places. Collaboration, says VitalStream, is a driving factor in the success of digital broadcasting solutions.
The company's technology and services range from the MediaConsole, a Web-based application designed to enable customers to remotely control and digitally broadcast their streaming content worldwide, to its NetCluster content delivery network and VitalPresenter, a Web conferencing tool that enables live multimedia presentations over the Internet.
According to VitalStream, interested users from around the world will be able to view the progress of the expedition first hand through the Web site, as the team streams audio and video dispatches.
