The email was designed to support the partnership whereby Covad, a provider of broadband DSL technology, is the official broadband provider to the 2000 American League West champions.
According to Jim Bloom, director of marketing for the Oakland A?s, the team's local fan base is one of the most technology savvy in the league. ?Together with Covad, we have successfully combined the visual excitement of Oakland A's baseball,? says Bloom, ?with EMC's creative and technology abilities to deliver a powerful message that allows for an immediate call to action.?
The video e-mail, produced by EMC, features the league's Most Valuable Player Jason Giambi describing ticket purchasing plans and the speed of Covad's DSL technology. According to EMC, the video email technology delivers rich media content, and e-commerce capabilities directly to a targeted audience.
?Within minutes of distribution, the A's and Covad will be able to access all actions made by recipients, including whether they watched the video, clicked through links or forwarded the message,? says Scott Hardy, vice president of sales and marketing for EMC.
The video email project is one of the results of a recent partnership between EMC and the California-based VitalStream Inc., a leader in audio and video streaming and advanced media hosting. The companies also collaborated to build the technology behind a real-time tracking system, available to clients in a secure Web-based environment.
The monitoring system offers clients the initial delivery to the opt-in recipient list, information on which recipients viewed the video and audio, information on the specific content downloaded by individual recipients and the email addresses of the individuals in the opt-in list.
The video email is packaged with an interface, or ?skin? that contains the video, audio and text portions of the content. The package also includes links to the web sites of each organization.
