Mar, 2002 : IBM To Provide Home Depot With E-business Infrastructure

📅 March 19, 2002 - Technology giant IBM said yesterday that Home Depot, the world's largest home improvement retailer, had chosen IBM to enhance its e-business infrastructure.

IBM said Home Depot will use its WebSphere platform, which manages high-volume transactions and integrates different business applications across a variety of computing systems, as the foundation for its new IT system.
Home Depot's IT network currently serves more than 1,300 stores, 300,000 associates and integrates with more than 45,000 business partners. Home Depot plans to use WebSphere to manage customer orders, replenishment orders, vendor invoices and other business transactions.
Home Depot will use IBM's DB2 and DB2 Connect database software to provide access from its transaction servers to its operational data. The company also said it had chosen IBM VisualAge Enterprise Suite, a toolkit for building WebSphere business applications, for delivery of custom applications.
"Home Depot is committed to customer service, and with these new solutions from IBM, we will be able to provide a scalable run-time environment for our e-business applications," said Mike Anderson, vice president of Information Systems at Home Depot. "Our IS team is constantly challenged to provide business applications that can process high transaction volumes with quick response times. Through our analysis of the leading Web application servers on the market, we felt that WebSphere would provide us the ability to meet these needs. And with well over 9,000 software vendors choosing WebSphere for their run-time application server, we know we are investing in an industry standard."
