📅 April 9, 2002 - SuSE Linux (suse.de) and hardware giant IBM (ibm.com) said yesterday they had formed a services alliance to jointly provide Linux-based support and services to corporate customers worldwide.

According to a joint release from the two companies, SuSE Linux and IBM Global Services will "collaborate on support and professional services." SuSE Linux, which provides a range of software services based on the Linux Operating System, will provide development, maintenance, and support teams for its SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), while IBM will "package and support turnkey implementations" of SLES, the release said.
Together, the two companies will jointly provide a wide range of corporate Linux solutions, including system integration and customization services, rollout and implementation services, system management services and full maintenance and support worldwide.
"With the new IBM and SuSE worldwide service alliance, corporate customers benefit from the availability of enterprise Linux solutions combined with a broad range of joint support and service offerings anywhere in the world," said Gerhard Burtscher, CEO of SuSE Linux. "This is a major step to make Linux corporate computing a reality."
