May, 2002 : Veritas Helps Lead Storage Standards Initiative

📅 May 27, 2002 - Storage software firm Veritas (veritas.com) unveiled its leadership role late last week in the development of "Bluefin", the Storage Networking Industry Association's (SNIA) newest initiative to create industry-wide standards aimed at simplifying the management and ensuring interoperability of networked storage environments.

Veritas said the technology standard, which was unveiled Wednesday, emerged from APIs and management tools developed by both itself and other SNIA member companies. The company said it is developing storage software products that incorporate the SNIA's common information model, and said a new company program would ensure vendors' Bluefin-ready products are tested and qualified with its own software products to ensure interoperability.
"Today's complex, multi-vendor networked storage environments require software that can manage and access data no matter where it resides in the network," said Mark Bregman, Veritas' Executive Vice President of Product Operations. "The Bluefin specification has the potential to dramatically change the way software and hardware interact, increasing the manageability of all the components of the enterprise data center. Veritas Software's leading role in establishing the Bluefin effort leverages its expertise in managing information across every major networking device, hardware platform and operating system."
