May, 2002 : Hotwire to Move Web Operations to Equinix Hub

📅 May 29, 2002 - Internet exchange service provider Equinix Inc. (Equinix.com) announced on Wednesday that online discount travel company Hotwire (hotwire.com) has chosen to move its Web operations to the Equinix Internet Business Exchange (IBX) center in Silicon Valley.

By locating its site operations in Equinix's hub, says Equinix, Hotwire is able to use the company's exchange services and the choice of networks available within the center for flexible and reliable service, delivering the highest quality site performance to Hotwire's more than 10 million registered users.
"Equinix is critical to helping us maintain a simple, easy user experience every time someone logs on to Hotwire to buy travel," says Al Pappas, chief information officer of Hotwire. "The choice of service providers available to us within Equinix Internet hubs provides us with superior operational flexibility, which enables a scalable infrastructure as our customer base grows and we sell more airline tickets, hotel rooms and car rentals. This change will ultimately result in faster site performance and a better overall customer experience."
According to Equinix, large content companies with transaction-based services, like Hotwire's online travel site, require a secure environment and reliable infrastructure services. "With the largest aggregation of carriers, networks, enterprises and service providers," says Jay Adelson, Equinix founder and CTO, "Equinix IBX centers are critical hubs for the infrastructure of the Internet. As such, Hotwire can quickly and easily provision services from a choice of providers, allowing them the strategic flexibility to expand operations to meet market demand, while providing the greatest performance at reduced cost."
