📅 - Research and consulting organization Covergence Consulting Group (convergenceonline.com) announced on Thursday that it has released its June 2002 Canadian Hosting Market Report, which offers a detailed look at the financial progress made in the Canadian hosting market during 2001.
According to Convergence, in assembling the report, the firm conducted hundreds of interviews with key hosting company personnel, equipment vendors and analysts. The organization also consulted such sources as Industry Canada, SEC and Statistics Canada.
Although many Canadian hosts experienced lower than expected revenues in 2001, says Convergence, the market experienced overall growth of approximately 65 percent in 2001.
Convergence forecasts strong growth in both 2002 and 2003, led by the dedicated, application and colocation segments. In the dedicated and application segments, says the firm, systems integrators remain dominant, though significant headway is being made by access players. Ancilliary services continue to become a more important part of the revenue mix in both the colocation and dedicated segments.
According to the report, shared hosting is becoming a less significant component of the market than in the past. In 2000 it was the largest, says Convergence, and by 2003 it will be the smallest.
Convergence says its hosting revenue estimates were derived from companies that either own or rent hosting facilities in Canada and host Web sites as all or part of their business. Only revenue from hosted Web sites as well as Internet or IP VPN-accessed applications are included in the estimates.
The firm says it has assessed the Canadian hosting market by shared, dedicated, colocation and application segments, as well as by the specific layers of bandwidth, management/monitoring, space, server, firewall/security, storage/backup, performance/load balancing and content delivery.
