Oct, 2002 : Critical Path, HP Offer Managed Messaging

📅 - Digital Communications software and services provider Critical Path Inc. (cp.net) and computer equipment maker HP (hp.com) announced on Thursday that they have formed an alliance to offer a managed messaging service targeting the enterprise, carrier and small and medium-sized business markets.

The alliance combines HP's IT infrastructure services and data center management expertise with Critical Path's software and operational experience offering a hosted messaging service. In the jointly-run operation, Critical Path will outsource its data center operations to HP while providing applications management services and product development.
The deal's total value is estimated at more than $100 million, including the alliance and the managed service relationship.
The companies will offer carrier-class messaging applications with a quality of service beyond what organizations are currently capable of. Both companies will market and sell the service. The companies say the worldwide market for messaging applications is expected to top $4.2 billion by 2006, according to IDC.
The service will be based on Critical Path's messaging platform as well as HP-UX and Linux-based servers. HP will initially deploy Critical Path's solutions in its data centers in Europe, North America and Asia.
