Oct, 2002 : Red Hat Expands Services With Acquisition
📅 - Linux developer Red Hat (redhat.com) has reportedly acquired server monitoring software company NOCpulse, a move that will allow Red Hat to offer increased network administration functions, including the ability to monitor networked computers as a group.
NOCpulse's Command Center application monitors computers running a variety of operating systems. Along with Linux-based servers, Command Center allows centralized administration of Sun Solaris servers and servers running Microsoft Windows and Unix boxes using HP's HP-UX.
Analysts say the enhanced monitoring and management features will give Red Hat a stronger ability to compete in the high-end server market and bid for a new range of projects.
Red Hat says it hopes the NOCpulse acquisition will allow the company to increase its Red Hat Network offerings, used to distribute program updates to users. Tying the NOCpulse technology in with the Red Hat Network could create a systems management service available in the form of a subscription-based solution.
Red Hat will merge the Command Center's user interface with its own Red Hat Network control interface. The company expects the integration to be complete by 2003, with NOCpulse employees moving to Red Hat's California office.
