📅 October 30, 2002 - Tier one ISP Cogent Communications (CogentCo.com) announced on Tuesday that it has been selected by video game distribution and download service provider Gigex Inc. (gigex.com) to provide its 100 Mbps Internet access service.

According to Cogent, Gigex uses Cogent's Interent connection to deliver large software and game files directly to end users.
Gigex offers free download services, serving a growing audience of 26 million monthly unique visitors through an affiliate network of 75 gaming, lifestyle and portal Web sites. The company currently delivers 1,000,000 downloads per month of console trailers and PC demos, creating a significant demand for bandwidth.
"Our data-only, national network is perfectly suited to handle the most demanding bandwidth services, and we are very pleased that Gigex was quick to realize this benefit," said Dave Schaeffer, CEO, Cogent Communications. "We charge the lowest price per megabit in the nation, and that's a compelling combination that the Internet gaming industry cannot overlook."
