Nov 4, 2002 : Red Hat Introduces RHCT Certification

📅 - Open source and Linux developer Red Hat (redhat.com) announced on Monday that it has expanded its skills certification program to include the new designation, Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT).

RHCT, says Red Hat, continues the company's performance-based approach to certification, requiring candidates to experience a hands-on approach, working with the systems directly to demonstrate their capabilities. RHCT covers the skills specific to production technicians, a subset of the skills tested in the company's Red Hat Certified Engineer certification. RHCT certified technicians can continue their studies to qualify for RHCE certification.
Red Hat says RHCT certification will be valuable to those transitioning to Linux from other UNIX operating systems, or to those who want to prove their competence on the way to RHCE, considered one of the most important certifications in IT.
"Four years ago when we unveiled RHCE, 'entry level' meant system and network administration for specialized Linux servers and internet roles," said Peter Childers, vice president of Global Learning Services at Red Hat. "Now we are preparing a new cadre of certified Linux technicians -- journeymen system administrators who set up and support Linux systems throughout production networks, who have earned RHCT and are on their way to RHCE."
