Nov 12, 2002 : Nortel Wins $65 Million Cox Contract
📅 - Communications equipment manufacturer Nortel Networks Corp. (nortelnetworks.com) announced on Tuesday that it has won a three-year, $65 million deal to supply network equipment to Cox Communications Inc., the US's fifth-largest cable provider.
According to the terms of the agreement, Cox will use Nortel equipment to boost capacity and deliver new serves as it expands its residential and business subscriber bases. Already a customer of Nortel?s, Cox says it plans to by Nortel's optical Ethernet, next-generation SONET and DMS telephony switch equipment. Cox says its subscriber base grew 1.2 percent to 6.26 million in the past year, as the company added subscribers for advanced services such as digital telephone and high-speed Internet.

📅 - C&W to Exit 12 American Data Centers - Communications company Cable & Wireless reportedly plans to shed 19 of its 42 data centers worldwide, including 12 in the US, as part of its efforts to restructure its global unit. The restructuring will eliminate 3,500 jobs in the unit, which includes Exodus and Digital Island. The company will limit its US business operations to focus on multinational enterprise and service providers. Cable & Wireless did not announce which data centers it would divest, but plans to withdraw in phases over a 12 month period.
