Nov, 2002 : SWsoft Releases Enterprise Control Center

📅 November 26, 2002 - Hosting automation and enterprise server software developer SWsoft Inc. (sw-soft.com) announced on Monday that it has released the Enterprise Control Center, designed to enable hosting providers to offer advanced utility-like computing services to network administrators in medium to large businesses.

The ECC, says SWsoft, is the latest addition to the company's HSPcomplete full business lifecycle hosting automation solution, enabling hosting providers to one or more Linux-based dedicated server. When used with SWsoft's Virtuozzo OS virtualization technology, ECC can manage, create and remove virtual environments on each of the servers, allowing businesses the ability to access and pay for only the resources they need.
"The ECC brings the rich Web browser-based tools of HSPcomplete to the business datacenter - usage accounting, delegated authority, tiered control panels, instantaneous application and OS deployment and migration of live OS and application systems to different physical servers," said Craig Oda, VP, business development, SWsoft, Inc. "This is enterprise datacenter software made available to smaller businesses such as 20-person network consulting firms or graphic design houses."

(genuity.com) announced last week that it has received a three-day extension from its lenders to complete negotiations to restructure the $2 billion in debt the company has been in default of since July. The company said last week that the extension with its creditors, including a group of banks and Verizon Communications runs until this Monday. The extension follows a ten-day extension granted November 11, and a two-week extension granted October 25. The latest was agreed to by all of the banks that provided the $723 million in funding received by Genuity in July as part of its line of credit, as well as by Verizon, which loaned Genu

📅 Nov 28, 2002 - Kaspersky Labs issues Internet worm warning - Kaspersky Labs (kaspersky.com) has issued a warning concerning a new Internet worm entitled "Winevar" (also known as "Korean Worm"). This malicious program was detected last week and was added to the Kaspersky Anti-Virus database. Winevar spreads through e-mail. An infected message can have different subjects, bodies and names of attached files. When the worm gets into a potential victim's e-mail box, it tries to penetrate the computer unnoticed, using the following vulnerabilities in the MS Internet Explorer security system. Having penetrated a system, the worm modifies Windows booting files to activate upon system restart and to initiate its spread.
