Feb, 2003 : Cogent Offers Shelter to Genuity Clients
📅 - Internet Service Provider Cogent Communications (cogentco.com), said yesterday it would offer service delivery guarantees of 5 business days or less to all Genuity ISP customers in danger of losing service, and to any other ISPs.
After finalizing its acquisition of communications carrier Genuity last week, Level 3 Communications announced its plans for integrating the company, which include job cuts, network consolidation and the dropping of smaller Genuity customers. Level 3 announced it would purchase Genuity in November 2002. Cogent said it could guarantee a 5-day turnaround because the firm operates its own facilities based network. "Cogent's network is well equipped to meet the needs of small- to medium- sized ISPs with our radical pricing equating to $30 per megabit. Customers deemed not profitable to Genuity can be well served by Cogent, and we welcome their business," said Cogent CEO Dave Schaeffer.
