Apr 29, 2003 : OpenReach Delivers Software Upgrade
📅 - OpenReach (openreach.com), a provider of Internet protocol-based wide area network services, yesterday announced Release 5.0 of its OpenReach IP WAN services to enable greater security and management control for organizations with complex and changing networks.
OpenReach enables companies to use cheap bandwidth through the commodity of IP access to connect business networks over the Internet. In order to make it a viable, secure option, OpenReach's IP WAN Services provides the management and reliability to make it usable for business.
The company reported that it was able to achieve a virtual 100% success rate in seamlessly and automatically upgrading the gateway software of its 500 diverse business customers, whose networks span 43 countries worldwide. Over the course of one weekend, OpenReach's entire installed base of 500 businesses worldwide was upgraded at the push of a button using the company's patent-pending, intelligent network management architecture.
"In a matter of days, OpenReach automatically upgraded my 300 remote locations without me needing to do a thing," said John Klein, director of telecom at Fortune 200 manufacturer Illinois Tool Works. "We selected OpenReach two years ago because we don't have on-site IT staff at every location. The automatic software updates that comes with the OpenReach service ensure we receive the latest features but without the hassle or expense of needing to touch every remote site or purchase new hardware."
OpenReach Software Release 5.0 offers improvements to the company's IPSec and SSL remote access service, the ability to secure wireless (Wi-Fi) local area networks, enhanced routing support such as PPPoE and OSPF, and integration with external network management systems using SNMP.
With its headquarters in Woburn Massachusetts, OpenReach provides IP WAN services for building secure and reliable enterprise networks over any IP transport.
