📅 July 23, 2003 - Equinix, Inc. (equinix.com) announced today that e-commerce giant Amazon.com (amazon.com) will expand its IT infrastructure operations to an Equinix Internet Business Exchange (IBX) center.

?Secure data center operations are an important contributor to the overall quality of our customers' experience and Equinix exceeded our stringent requirements,? said Tom Killalea, vice-president of Infrastructure at Amazon.com. ?Equinix's unique model provides access to strategic network service providers allowing Amazon.com to reduce operating costs and share the savings with customers in the form of lower prices.?
According to the company, colocating in Equinix's neutral facility will give Amazon.com access to more than 100 network service providers.
?We are very pleased to have been chosen by Amazon.com, as the company's first outsourced data center provider,? said Peter Van Camp, CEO of Equinix. ?This win is an important market validation of our ability to serve the mission-critical operations of the world's largest e-commerce and content providers.?
Equinix is a provider of data center and colocation services with headquarters in Foster City, California and Singapore.
