Northern Cyprus Delegations

• .ct.tr / .nc.tr operate under the .tr hierarchy for Turkish-Cypriot institutions, pending any future top-level recognition.

Procedural Highlights

1. No documents, no delays for mainstream commercial domains. TRABİS accepts the registrar’s timestamp as proof of priority.
2. Document-backed names (e.g., edu.tr) still demand supporting files before activation.
3. All names are managed exclusively through registrar dashboards; the former NIC.TR interface is defunct.

Practical Assessment

TRABİS has modernised Turkey’s domain ecosystem, replacing manual review with automated issuance and creating a more level playing field among registrars. The changeover has:

• Lowered entry barriers for SMEs and individuals thanks to instant, paper-free registration.
• Increased competition by accrediting many suppliers rather than relying on a single academic operator.
• Raised awareness of .tr options beyond the traditional third-level formats.

There are, however, transitional challenges. Legacy NIC.TR users faced migration steps, and some niche registrants must still navigate document rules. Additionally, while second-level .tr domains bring shorter addresses, they introduce potential collision with established third-level brands, so vigilant trademark monitoring remains essential.
