Reykjavík Internet Exchange

ISNIC operates the RIX, a public internet exchange located in Reykjavík, Iceland. RIX has been operating since 1999 and is currently the only open internet exchange in Iceland.

ISNIC was set up based on two casual associations (SURIS and ICEUUG) that had been running the organization since Iceland's organizing associations where set up in 1986. These underlying associations with the European EUnet network were run under the support of the University of Iceland and the Icelandic Marine Research Institute.

The Icelandic organization developed quickly and by 1995 the individuals from the above associations concluded that the organization's activity should have been set up in a proper way.
