Lucas Roh, CEO of Hostway, told Australian IT that the company is targeting the Australian market because of the cultural and business similarities it shares with the U.S. Roh added that the company is keen to participate in the 'inevitable consolidation' of the hosting market in Australia, and aims to compete on price and service with the two dominant local providers, WebCentral (webcentral.com.au) and Hostworks (hostworks.com.au).
Hostway entered the Australian hosting market in April of this year with an eye towards acquisitions.
In September, the company made two acquisitions. Early in the month, it acquired the dedicated server business and other assets of GlobalHost (globalhost.com.au), a company with no association to the American company of the same name. In late September, Hostway snapped up Dedicated Hosting (dedicatedhosting.com.au -> serversaustralia.com.au), an Australian Web hosting, colocation and managed services provider.
In Australia, Hostway runs its hosting operations from the Global Switch data center in inner-Sydney Pyrmont.
