Feb 16, 2004 : Windows Server 2003 Use Overtakes NT4


📅 - The number of servers running the Windows Server 2003 operating system now outnumbers those running Windows NT4, according to the results of Netcraft's (netcraft.com) February Web server survey.

Based on the survey's data, a total of 1.25 million hostnames are running Windows Server 2003, an increase of 283 percent since August of last year. Netcraft said the majority of the sites currently running Windows Server 2003 migrated from the Windows 2000 platform while another 55,000 sites migrated from Linux, 56,000 from FreeBSD and 8,000 from Solaris. The number of new sites running Windows Server 2003 was 272,000.

According to Netcraft's February Web server survey, which covered 47,173,415 hostnames, Apache was running on 67.21 percent of the over 47 million hostnames surveyed, while Microsoft platforms ran on 20.88 percent. SunOne and Zeus followed with 3.51 and 1.60 percent respectively.
