May 4, 2004 : IBM Moves to Equinix IDC in Singapore
📅 - Equinix (equinix.com), a provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, announced on Tuesday that it has signed an $18 million, multi-year deal with IBM (ibm.com) that will see the technology giant operate out of its Internet Business Exchange (IBX) center in Singapore. The deal expands Equinix's three-year relationship with IBM, who to this point has only operated out of Equinix's US-based data centers.
"Leading enterprises look to IBM Global Services for their expertise and high-performance e-business solutions," says Phil Koen, head of Equinix Asia-Pacific. "We are pleased to offer IBM an infrastructure both in the US and now in Singapore in support of IBM's e-business and outsourcing service offerings for their customers' business operations. This important win underscores IBM's confidence in the Equinix partnership long term and demonstrates our ability to make Asia an easy extension for our customers as we continue to grow our key customer relationships." Equinix said the agreement allows IBM to offer enterprises in Singapore local access to IBM solutions, such as hosting, disaster recovery, technology and outsourcing services. "Through Equinix, IBM will offer enterprise customers in Asia a wide array of e-business services, managed service solutions and IT outsourcing," says Francis Fong, general manager of strategic outsourcing for IBM Global Services, Singapore. "IBM has seen tremendous success in the region and we require the highest quality services to meet the demands of our growing enterprise base. Equinix's unique network-neutral model combined with world-class data center operations also allow us to continue to expand our service offerings in Singapore which is an important market for IBM." Equinix operates 14 data center facilities in five countries around the world. The company recently expanded its Washington, DC footprint.
