Sep 3, 2004 : Microsoft Releases SP1 for Sharepoint
📅 - Microsoft (microsoft.com) said on Thursday that it has made two Service Pack 1 downloads available for customers using Microsoft Sharepoint products and technologies. The company said the service packs provide performance improvements for Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. Microsoft's Sharepoint technologies help customers to build collaborative work spaces for intranet and extranet communities.
According to Microsoft, the service packs allow uses to support files up to 2GB, attain better search results, and enjoy enhanced database restoration and improved support for the application of updates. Language templates for 11 additional languages, including Croatian, Latvian and Slovenian, are also available with the service packs.
The release comes on the heels of Microsoft issuing Service Pack 2 for the Windows XP operating system. The updates are designed to bolster security for Windows XP and is viewed by analysts as an effort by Microsoft, to answer critics who continue to disparage the platform's vulnerability to hackers.
According to analysts, the Service Pack 2 is particularly crucial. Earlier this week, the US Computer Emergency Response Team recommended that every Windows XP user intall the update.
