Sep 10, 2004 : Spiderhost Withstands Hurricane
📅 - Florida-based Web hosting provider Spiderhost (Spiderhost.com -> hostinger.com) announced on Friday that the company's data center remained online with power and connectivity at 100 percent capacity during and after Hurricane Frances last weekend. This marks the second catastrophic event that the Spiderhost data center has been able to withstand without sacrificing a second of uptime for its customers.
"We are extremely pleased that our customers were able to avoid any downtime as a result of Hurricane Frances," says Dale Frohman, president of Spiderhost. "So many people have been affected by both Frances and Charley and so much damage has been done across the region, we feel very fortunatethat our infrastructure has held strong throughout both events."
Prior to Hurricane Frances arriving on shore, Spiderhost provided all Internet browsers with a free tutorial on supporting and securing business networks and data. Spiderhost's data center is secured 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The company's data center withstood the heaviest effects of the storm with its redundant AC/DC power and uninterruptible power supply systems in place, ensuring that customer equipment is up and running even in the event of an extended utility failure. The center's 2000 kw CAT generator was deployed to run the entire site at full capacity for at least 24 hours without refuelling. The advanced monitoring devices allowed Spiderhost to constantly check the facility's critical systems during the storm.
