Nov 16, 2004 : Microsoft Unveils Management Software

📅 November 16, 2004 - Software giant Microsoft (microsoft.com) announced on Tuesday that it has released version 3.0 of Microsoft Solutions for Windows-based Hosting, a management platform that includes tools for handling, building, provisioning, patching and monitoring Windows-based Web servers and allows service providers to deploy value-added hosted services rapidly and efficiently, lowering costs and generating revenue opportunities.

The three new out-of-the box hosted services incorporated into the new platform include Windows Sharepoint hosting, SQL Server hosting, and Web hosting with IIS, including support for ASP.NET, SSL, FTP email and FrontPage Server Extensions.
Microsoft said the platform includes a new deployment tool that automates 85 percent of installation and maintenance tasks, helping reduce overall server costs.
"According to our customers, operational efficiency and the ability to increase average revenue per user are must-haves in today's highly competitive Web hosting environment," says Pascal Martin, general manager for Hosting Solutions at Microsoft. "We designed the Microsoft Solution for Windows-based Hosting Version 3.0 with these critical goals in mind, and we are extremely excited to be delivering the latest version of our proven Microsoft hosting tools and tested best practices to service providers of all sizes."
Microsoft received testimonials from Web hosts iPowerWeb, Pipex and Xiolink. The company reportedly worked with Ensim and SWsoft in preparing the new tools.
