📅 - Virtualization technology developer Inkra Networks (inkra.com) announced on Tuesday that it would participate in SAVVIS Communications's (savvis.com) seminar series, which kicks off on Wednesday in Washington, DC. Titled "Virtualized Utility Services: Vision Realized," the seminar series focuses on how new technologies and services are improving IT performance while reducing waste, complexity and costs. Joydip Das, director of product marketing at Inkra Networks, will make a presentation on Inkra's network virtualization technology and the benefits to the hosting customer. The SAVVIS seminar series begins on April 6, 2005, in Washington, DC. The second seminar in the series will be held on April 27 in Weehaken, New Jersey, followed by Chicago on May 3 and Dallas on May 4.

Lawmakers called for the $1 million federal study, entitled "Signposts in Cyberspace," under a 1998 federal law, the Next Generation Internet Research Act. Passed near the advent of what became the Internet boom, it instructed the Commerce Department to seek a study about Web addresses and trademarks by the National Research Council and finish the report within nine months. Since January The Planet has deployed 16 TippintPoint appliances in its three data centers. The company says it chose to deploy TippingPoint's system because of its ability to block attacks at multi-gigabit speeds with no effective latency. Each appliance provides two GBps of throughput and latency similar to an ethernet switch. The TippingPoint Security Management System is used to monitor and manage the system.
