Apr, 2001 : Cable & Wireless IDC launches second data center in Osaka
📅 - Cable & Wireless IDC (http://www.cw.com/jp_home_en.asp) announced today that the company had opened the Osaka Data Center 2 (Suita, Osaka, around 2,000 square meters) on April 9, 2001. This increased the total floor area of the data center to around 7,000 square meters.
The Osaka Data Center 2 was established as the fourth Japanese data centerto fulfill the emerging managed hosting needs in the Kansai area. This datacenter is directly connected to the Cable & Wireless's high performanceglobal IP backbone network. The facility meets high technical requirementssuch as being fire and earthquake-resistant and air conditioned, and havingadequate security to maintain customers' Web systems.
In addition to currently providing Web hosting services, Cable & WirelessIDC will provide various value-added services, such as web system managementand failure recovery services provided by the cooperation with our alliancepartners.
Cable & Wireless IDC is one of carriers that began service using data centerearliest in the Kansai area and began the service from 1997. It has aboutfour years of experience in operating the data center. NSPIXP-3, the stableInternet exchange in Kansai, has been located in the Osaka Data Center 1,and Cable & Wireless IDC has been an important part of the Internet networkin the Kansai area. The total capacity of the Osaka Data Center 1 and OsakaData Center 2 is one of the largest in the Kansai area, and therefore thecustomers can expand their own systems when needed as a result of businesssuccess.
Cable & Wireless IDC is expanding its data centers in accordance with Cable& Wireless's global web hosting network program, which will provide Cable &Wireless 22 data centers worldwide. Furthermore, Cable & Wireless IDC plansto open a new data center facility in Tokyo in June 2001, which is the baseof Web hosting service in Asia, in accordance with this global program.
