EU Data Center Rules Delayed by Nuclear Sustainability Tests




📅 - The European Commission is preparing minimum energy-efficiency requirements for data centers as AI workloads accelerate electricity demand, but a delayed sustainability plan has exposed a harder policy question: how to treat nuclear-powered facilities when the bloc wants local cloud capacity without locking in higher emissions, grid stress or politically contested energy choices for operators across Europe now.

The issue is no longer whether data centers consume too much power. Brussels has already accepted that the curve is steep.
