Oct 12, 2006 : Port 80 Says IIS Beating Apache
📅 - Port80 Software (port80software.com), a developer of tools and extensions for Microsoft Internet Information Services Web servers, announced on Wednesday that the Microsoft IIS 6 Web server has, for the first time, surpassed open source Web server Apache in market share. The results are based on the company's recent survey of the public Web sites of Fortune 1000 companies' use of Internet and application hosting technologies.
The survey results show IIS 6 at 27 percent, more than double its market share in the past year. According to the survey, the software will soon overcome IIS 5 to be the most widely deployed Web server among Fortune 1000 companies. Overall, IIS 4, 5, and 6 deployments are leading with a combined 54.9 percent share of all Fortune 1000 corporate sites versus Apache's 23.3 percent share.
Port 80 also reported that Microsoft ASP.NET application server environments are also currently used on 48.4 percent of Fortune 1000 sites. Other application servers, such as Java platforms, PHP and ColdFusion, all combined to account for 21.2 percent of deployments.
"The rapid adoption of IIS 6 among Fortune 1000 companies underscores Microsoft's leadership in the corporate market," says Joseph Lima, director of product development at Port80 Software. "Our company is fully focused on developing the best software solutions to secure, accelerate, and enhance Microsoft's Web platform."
