Oct 10, 2016 : China’s GDS Holdings Wants in Nasdaq
📅 - A Chinese data center provider wants entry into the American stock market. GDS Holdings has filed for an IPO recently with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
China has been enjoying huge growth in the developing data center market, and according to GDS, there are few alternative data center options.
GDS are partnered with Aliyun, the cloud services division of Alibaba, and would like to enter more deals with cloud service providers.

📅 - GoDaddy Reaches 1 Million Registrants in UK - On Thursday, the web hosting giant GoDaddy announced that it has hit a milestone for registrations in the UK – now at 1 million and growing. The .UK ccTLD is a new offering from GoDaddy and was a major turning point for the hosting company. Some of the domains under the .UK ccTLD include .co.uk, .uk, .org.uk, and .me.uk. GoDaddy believes that around one quarter of all UK domains are registered through the company, a major milestone in addition to reaching the 1 million registrant mark.
Andrew Low Ah Kee, the Executive Vice President of GoDaddy International, made the following statement about the milestone:

📅 - .Cloud to Run Awareness Ad on CNN - To combat low public awareness of new TLDs (top-level domain), .cloud is running an ad spot on CNN. The ad will be shown in both the US and Asia as a partnership with domain giant GoDaddy.
Since the .cloud official launched in February, more than 70,000 domains have registered. .Cloud has been used by businesses of all types and sizes, in 140 countries.
The television ad invites viewers to visit GoDaddy.cloud to drive awareness and growth in adoption of the domain extension.

📅 - Spying and Data Centers: An NSA Data Center in the UK - It probably won't surprise many to find out that the US surveillance outpost found in the UK has its own data center. This was revealed by a story by The Intercept, an anti-NSA online magazine from First Look Media. The story showed an incredible amount of details about the activities at Mentwith Hill Station, which came from documents leaked by Edward Snowden.
The first series of stories about Snowden's leaks came out in 2013 from Glenn Greenwald, one of the founding editors of The Intercept. The data center covers 10,000 square feet and was a $40 million project built between 2009 and 2012.

📅 - Andhra Pradesh, India Students Receiving Help from Amazon - Amazon has decided to help train the students in Andhra Pradesh, India. This is a new project that will join Amazon with competitors Google and Microsoft to help provide cloud computing skills to Indian students. The project is being launched with the Andhra Pradesh State Skills Development Corporation.
The goal of the project is to help upgrade the skills of area students. This is due to an emergence of technologies in the area including cloud computing, cyber security, data analytics and big data.

📅 - Igneous Reveals ‘True Cloud for Local Data’ - After three years of operating under the radar, Seattle based startup Igneous Systems has announced it's first public offering.
The new offering, Igneous Data Service, provides data storage in the customer's data center. The customer doesn't have to purchase any equipment or install any software.
“Today, when people talk about the private cloud, it usually means customers are still buying hardware, installing software and managing infrastructure,” Kiran Bhageshpur CEO and co-founder recently said. “We think of ourselves as private cloud for real, as true cloud for local data. As our customer, you just consume storage resources across an API.”
