📅 - NRDC States They were Off on Data Center Energy Estimates - The Natural Resources Defense Council, a well-known United States activist group, has recently admitted they were off on the 2014 estimates for data center energy consumption. The government stated that the data centers in the US used about 70 billion kilowatt-hours of energy in 2014, which was about 6.4 billion less than what the NRDC estimates for 2011 and about 21 billion less than they estimated for 2013.

📅 - Telstra Acquires Microsoft Service Provider Readify - Telstra, a telecommunications company from Australia, recently acquired the software developer Readify, according to Monday's announcement. Readify has been providing services to Microsoft for products like SharePoint, Office 365, and more. The company has received a host of awards from Microsoft.
Readify builds apps for customers and has had a hand in some of the largest Azure implementations in Australia. Terms of the acquisition have not yet been disclosed.

📅 - European Union Approves First Rules on Cybersecurity - The first post-Safe Harbor rules on cybersecurity have been approved by the European Union. The European Parliament endorsed the legislation that would require service operators in various industries – including banking, transportation, energy, and health – and digital operators like search engines to comply with new security and reporting measures.
One piece of the legislation details that companies like Google and Amazon will be forced to report any attacks they receive and strengthen their cyber defense against such attacks.
“The law, voted through on Wednesday in Strasbourg, France, also requires EU national governments to cooperate among themselves in the field of network security.”

They will join a large number of enterprises making plans to ditch conventional on premise deployments and move to the cloud infrastructure.
A Wall Street Journal report stated that about more than 500 terabytes of data is already stored on Microsoft Azure, Amazon and NTT cloud platforms for Johnson & Johnson. They are using multiple cloud provides, which is an approach many are taking and will take in the future.
