📅 - Recently, a report was released from the advocacy group Ranking Digital Rights or RDR. The report is called the 2015 Corporate Accountability Index. It evaluates 16 of the largest internet and telecommunications companies on disclosure policies and public commitments.
The report had Google winning with a score of 65% and Yahoo right behind at 58%. However no company really scored very well on the report. The report showed that many companies are lacking in clarity when it comes to the disclosures and how user information is treated. .

📅 - Ransom Paid to Hackers by ProtonMail after Huge DDoS Attack - A DDoS attack targeting ProtonMail, an encrypted email provider, has caused the company to pay 15 bitcoin or $6,000 to hackers. Even though 2016 has been pegged at the year of online extortion, it may have started a bit sooner.
The company described the attack at “quite unprecedented in size and scope.” The attack came from a group working out of Switzerland and ProtonMail believed it came from two groups, not just one.
In order to combat DDoS attacks, ProtonMail has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $50,000. This campaign will allow them to cover the cost of DDoS protection. .
📅 - DeClout Acquires the ISP Assets of Pacnet - DeClout, a cloud computing company recently acquired the Internet Service Provider assets of Pacnet. DeClout is headquartered in Singapore and has been around since 2010. They have a global presence with operations in more than 80 countries.
This new deal will help the company to expand their reach in the Southeast Asian market. They plan to expand the customer base in this area.
With the acquisition, they will also get the Pacific Internet trademarks from Singapore and add 3,000 new customers to the company. .
