Oct, 2009 : Q9 Networks Opens New Data Center in Calgary
📅 - Built at a total cost of approx $50 million, company's new data center offers a capacity of 1,200 cabinet equivalents.
Q9 Networks Inc., a Canadian provider of outsourced data center infrastructure, today announced the opening of its third data center in the Calgary area. The data center, which opened just two years after Q9 launched its second Calgary data center, has a potential total capacity of more than 10,000 cabinet equivalents, says the company.
It further adds that the first phase of the data center, representing an investment of $50 million, including land and a building, will support 1,200 cabinet equivalents. More than 38 per cent of the capacity in the first phase has already been reserved by new and existing customers. Additional capacity will be brought on-stream as required.
The company avers that the new data center's infrastructure was built to the same exacting standards as all Q9 data centers and includes such features as outside air cooling capability to maximize energy efficiency, biometric security systems, multiple connections to the Internet, redundant power, HVAC and fire suppression systems, as well as 7x24 on-site security and technical support teams.
"The launch of this data centre, our largest to date in Calgary, further strengthens Q9's leading position in Western Canada," said Q9 Chief Executive Officer, Osama Arafat. "Calgary is a strategic market where we have invested more than $90 million since 2002. We are committed to meeting the growing needs of our customers in all the geographies we serve and this data centre is a significant part of Q9's continuing program of expansion."
