Feb, 2009 : Right Servers Deploys AppLogic-Based Grid

📅 February 11, 2009 - Grid hosting software developer 3Tera (3tera.com) reported in collaboration with the customer on Tuesday that Canadian hosting provider Right Servers (rightservers.com ) has launched a new grid-based hosting service built on 3Tera's AppLogic cloud computing platform.

The platform for building a hosting "cloud" will enable the company to offer several new services, including grid-based virtual private servers, shared hosting with automatic failover and "grid hosting," whereby the company offers "scalable LAMP clusters with pre-built application stacks" on a subscription basis.

3Tera was one of the early innovators in the cloud computing market that has since become a hot topic in this publication and others. One of the business buzzwords these days, cloud computing is on the mind of tech execs an IT managers everywhere.

For service providers looking to explore the potential for their involvement in the cloud computing model, AppLogic is certainly one of the avenues they can explore for building cloud computing into their offering, but it is far from the only one.

RightServers says using AppLogic to build its solution was a matter of filling in the gaps in its existing solutions.

"Time-to-market is important to us and our clients, especially for those that are in the development phase of on-demand applications," says Right Servers CEO Yazan Al-Sheikhly, quoted in the company's press-release. "AppLogic has created a significant competitive advantage for our Software-as-a-Service customers by allowing them to get their solutions into production faster, with low development costs."

The Right Servers website includes a section with specifications and pricing for its new grid and VPS hosting services, as well as similar information for its dedicated and shared hosting plans. The company says its scalable LAMP stacks start at $45 per month.

The site also includes a lengthy look at the "grid appliances" available with its grid hosting packages. The AppLogic platform enables the user of a particular piece of the grid to quickly install virtual appliances based on a range of installed web server, database, switching and storage applications.
