Jan, 2009 : Attenda Gets CarbonNeutral Accreditation

📅 - UK managed hosting provider Attenda (attenda.net) announced on Tuesday it has been accredited with CarbonNeutral (carbonneutral.com) certification, which recognizes that the company has attained a net zero CO2 emissions rating.

In other recent carbon neutral news, Australian web hosting provider Internode announced in October it began using 100 percent renewable energy throughout its operations.

According to its website, The CarbonNeutral Company is "one of the world's leading carbon consulting and carbon offsetting company."

The company works with thousands of clients, from small businesses to multinationals, to reduce their CO2 emissions.

The CarbonNeutral Company offers a range of different carbon offset projects, which work to offset CO2 emissions through the use of renewable energy, resource conservation, waste reduction and forestry projects.

Those organizations whose energy consumption and waste are reduced to net zero are accredited with the CarbonNeutral brand.

To attain CarbonNeutral accreditation, Attenda selected to offset within the GreenGlobe Portfolio, which is a verified emissions reduction plan that is comprised of 60 percent renewable energy schemes and 40 percent resource conservation activities.

The CarbonNeutral accreditation is part of Attenda's Social Responsibility Programme, which works towards supporting charities, as well as managing and controlling the environmental impact of all its business activities.

Attenda's environmental strategy compliments its existing ISO 9001 certified Quality Management System, ISO 27001 certified Information Security Management System and ISO 20000 certified IT Service Management System.

"To demonstrate our environmental commitment we took a decision to offset the carbon footprint that we could not reduce through business change, and following an extensive selection process we chose to work with The CarbonNeutral Company," says Mark Fowle, Attenda CEO. "We are seeing environmental impact becoming an important factor with our clients and in bidding for new client contracts in commercial, financial services, professional & business services markets."

Attenda says it will soon be introducing a service option that will enable customers to offset the carbon footprint of their infrastructure that they host within Attenda's data centers.

In August, Attenda launched its Real Time Infrastructure, which creates a scaleable, "always on" solution for Internet and enterprise applications.
