Oct 8, 2008 : BitGravity Adds Advanced API For CDN
According to BitGravity's announcement Wednesday, its patent-pending API technology for H.264 and FLV-encoded Video now provides extensive control over progressive downloads within Flash, enabling developers to inject advertising, automatically adjust bitrates, add virtual clips and other additional advanced features. It also enables developers to create affordable and scalable interactive HD video applications for the first time.
"With the move toward high-definition video and the demand for advanced feature sets, successful content delivery networks must have rich APIs capable of supporting customers with cutting-edge interactive video applications," Tier1 Research (t1r.com) vice president and research director Dan Golding said in a statement. "In a market prone to commoditization, innovation and the embrace of new technologies are the true differentiators between providers."
Developers and resellers can add a variety of advanced features to video via BitGravity's library of source code to extend advanced features to interactive video applications including H.264 streaming with Advanced Progressive is now an option with BitGravity's content delivery service.
CDN Resellers large and small are expected to be able to rebrand and deliver BitGravity's new services to customers. In September, India-based media conglomerate Tata Communications (tatacommunications.com -> bigrock.in) integrated BitGravity's technologies into its CDN to power what it calls the "first truly global CDN service" with more than 300 points of presence worldwide.
"From inception, our service was intended for interactive, fast-loading, HD content delivery across the mainstream Internet, and this new release of our Advanced Progressive API with H.264 support is another milestone in keeping with this original vision," BitGravity chief technical officer and co-founder Barrett Lyon said in a statement. "We will continue to enhance the API as necessary to expand our customers' capabilities and options for affordably creating compelling interactive video applications for large-scale audiences."
BitGravity has prepared an online demonstration of its Advanced Progressive technology on its website, where users can test its functions on an HD video.
