May 15, 2008 : TelecityGroup to Open Paris Facility
📅 - TelecityGroup (telecitygroup.com -> equinix.com), a company that calls itself "the leading pan-European operator or network independent data centers," announced on Thursday it is building a new data center in Paris for around $74.3 million.
The company says it decided to expand its footprint it Paris to meet ongoing customer demand and to help ensure TelecityGroup continues to have growth capacity "in one of Europe's largest data center markets."
The new data center will be the Group's 21st data center in Europe and its third in the French capital.
TelecityGroup says the new facility will be approximately 32,000 square feet and be able to support high power density requirements of up to 20 kilowatts per rack. The data center is also being designed to meet international standards ISO27001:2005 for information security management and ISO 14001, which sets out a framework of essential elements for putting an effective environmental management system in place, says the company.
"Customers are increasingly seeking large and resilient data centers to provide secure hosting and connectivity services," says Stephane Duproz, managing director of TelecityGroup, France. "The continued growth of the Internet economy and the evolving online needs of business both locally and internationally are combining to drive the increase in demand for high-quality data centers."
The data center will be launched in phases from the second half of 2009 to the second quarter of 2011.
Based in London, TelecityGroup says it offers flexible data center and managed services and specializes in the design, build and management of highly-connected and secure environments. The company operates data centers across seven European countries including The Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, UK, Italy, France and Sweden.
The TelecityGroup news continues a wave of data center announcements over the past few weeks. Yesterday managed hosting provider SAVVIS announced it would open a new facility in London while last Friday, Internap Network Services announced it plans to build a "green" facility in Boston, adjacent to its existing Boston data center.
