Jun, 2001 : AT&T Canada Buys Bird On A Wire Networks

📅 - AT&T Canada became a significant player in the Canadian Web hosting industry overnight after purchasing Mississauga-based Bird On A Wire Networks (boaw.com) yesterday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Bird On A Wire, one of Canada's first managed hosting companies, specializes in high-end hosting services like dedicated, co-located and managed hosting. With the purchase, AT&T inherits a client base that includes a number of notable companies, including Famous Players movie cinemas, and a 30,000 square foot data center in Mississauga, Ontario.
AT&T Canada is the second phone company in recent months to enter the Canadian managed hosting market. Calgary-based telecom TELUS recently announced it would pick up the Canadian assets of troubled American ISP PSINet. The deal, which is still subject to regulatory approval, will see TELUS pick up approximately 50 points-of-presence, or Internet connection facilities that serve most major Canadian markets, and a state-of-the-art data center in Toronto. The company also plans to unveil an additional Calgary center in early July.
