Jul, 2001 : IBM WebSphere Outpacing BEA, Global Market

📅 - A new report from IDC on the application server software market says that IBM WebSphere is growing faster than BEA.

The report, entitled "Application Server Software Platforms Market Forecast and Analysis, 2001-2005," also noted that IBM's growth rate in 1999-2000 was twice the industry average, at 258 percent. According to the report, the worldwide market grew 128 percent from $957 million in 1999 to $2.186 billion in 2000.
WebSphere's worldwide market share reached 15.4 percent over the last year, less than three percentage point of BEA. IDC's report praised the software as representing "the essence of the e-business platform," with features such as portals, personalization, edge servers, mobile, content-based routing, authentication, real-time user load balancing, and WebSphere Business Integrator.
"The early days of e-business focused on getting to the Web, and most companies devoted their efforts to creating websites," said Steve Garone, Program Vice President, IDC. "Today, as companies focus on integrating applications and data both inside and outside the organization, customers need an e-business platform that encompasses all the functions required to build and deploy e-business applications, using the application server as the foundation layer. IBM has achieved this and is moving aggressively to supply companies with this full stack of functions."
