📅 - Birch Telecom (birch.com) yesterday announced the addition of e-commerce to its Web hosting options and the expansion of its Unix and NT solutions for small to mid-size businesses. These new products are meant to complement the company's popular Sp@ce Genie package, which provides customers point and click capability to build their own Web site without investing money in development.
"Businesses can now choose from a vast array of Web hosting options packagedto meet even the tightest budgets," said Dave Scott, Birch's president andCEO. "And, as their Web traffic and storage space needs grow, Birch hasofferings to accommodate them. Plus, businesses can consolidate theirmonthly bills for local telephone service, long-distance, Internet accessand now Web hosting."
Birch's six new Unix solutions, called Sp@ce Host, start at $25 a month witha $50 setup fee and include detailed site usage statistics through industryleader WebTrends, 24-hour account access and a pre-installed counter, whichtracks the number of visitors.
As customers select packages that provide greater bandwidth and storage,Birch will provide receive additional functionality, such as search engines,real-time chat, database capabilities, Real Audio and Video, a random linkgenerator, which can be used to display alternating advertisements, andother features.
Unix-based e-commerce, available with three of the Sp@ce Host packages,starts at $75 and features a storebuilder wizard, which enables businessesto construct their store through a Web browser. Similarly, Birch says Sp@ceGenie allows businesses to create their entire site online, without anyprogramming knowledge, for $30 a month. All Birch Web hosting packagesfeature a price break for purchasing on an annual basis.
The company's two new NT solutions are priced at $50 and $100 per month andinclude Microsoft Office Server Extensions. T he extensions help businessessecurely publish Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project documents. Then, userswith administrative permissions can modify the documents on the server inreal-time, participate in discussions about a file, as well as use thecalendar and other collaborative and messaging tools.
All of Birch's new Unix and NT solutions run on high-quality hardware,including multiple OC-12 connections, SGI Origin 200 servers, Cheetah harddrives and Foundry BigIron routers.
