Aug, 2001 : Sprint, Dell to Form Web Hosting Alliance
📅 - Telecom giant Sprint Corp. and computer manufacturer Dell announced Thursday that the two companies were forging an alliance to offer Web hosting services to the SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) market.
Specific financial terms of the deal were not released, although a release from the companies said they expected the agreement to generate "hundreds of millions of dollars in sales between the two companies over the next seven years."
Under the agreement, the two companies will develop a number of bundled hosting solutions geared toward small to mid-sized businesses. The packages will feature hardware manufactured by Dell and infrastructure services provided by Sprint.
"This relationship allows us to integrate IP, frame relay, broadband and wireless solutions into our existing Web hosting product, and to offer those products at leading service levels and competitive price points," said Mike Arterbury, General Manager of DellHost, the Web hosting arm of Dell.
Sprint said it expected the offering would complement the company's roster broadband offerings and DSL services geared toward businesses.
"This is all about finding creative solutions to our customers' problems and bringing those solutions quickly and efficiently to market," said John Dupree, Vice President of Marketing for Sprint Business.
