📅 - Broadwing Communications (broadwing.com), a wholly ownedsubsidiary of the integrated communications leader Broadwing Inc., announcedtwo enhancements to its Dedicated Internet Access Services: Web-basedCustomer Network Management Tools and Proactive Monitoring/Notification,giving customers performance visibility and insight into their IP trafficusage patterns and network activities.

Broadwing's customer network management tools for dedicated Internet accessservice provide Web-based network performance reports and trouble ticketingtools. The Performance Reports capture network availability, core packetloss, core roundtrip latency, customer circuit traffic utilizationdistribution, customer port peak throughput, and customer port accumulatedvolume on a rolling daily, weekly, and monthly basis. The reports werecreated to provide a secure view with single sign-on access for current andhistorical trended traffic and SLA performance activities on the BroadwingIP Backbone Network.
"Broadwing's Dedicated IP customers, like one of the nation's largestpublishers and one of the largest e-business providers, can monitor theirusage amounts, and use this information for upgrade and capacity planningpurposes," said Dominick DeAngelo, president of Internet and Data services."Customers can also monitor the superior performance of Broadwing's IPNetwork through these reports with actual network availability, packet lossand latency measurement results."
The CNMS package also provides an online resource for opening, checkingstatus, and archiving trouble tickets. The second enhancement, thehigh-availability platform supporting Broadwing's ProactiveMonitoring/Notification feature, automatically monitors the IP connection tothe customers' premise equipment by pinging the WAN interface every fiveminutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
On a related note, Broadwing yesterday announced that McAfee.com has becomethe first commercial customer for the company's Point-to-Point OpticalGigabit Ethernet service. Broadwing will extend its optical network directlyto McAfee.com's data centers, giving McAfee.com flexibility and power torespond to customer needs for Web security services, while experiencinghigher levels of speed and efficiency and lower costs for bandwidth andnetwork management.
