Nov, 2001 : Versant Releases New Version of Transaction Accelerator

📅 November 6, 2001 - Versant Corporation (versant.com), a provider of middleware infrastructure solutions, has announced the availability of Versant enJin 2.2. This latest release offers performance and scalability enhancements, new ease-of-use features and extends the ability to seamlessly persist Java objects from within Java Server Pages and Servlets as well as EJBs. It also provides tool integration with Borland's JBuilder Integrated Development Environment to simplify new application development.

Versant enJin 2.2 complements the J2EE platform delivering high performanceand scalability, reduced application development time and increasedreliability for data needed within the middle-tier, application serverenvironment. Versant says it integrates with leading application servervendors, IBM WebSphere and BEA WebLogic to boost performance by as much as50 times over existing solutions.
"The performance wars among leading application server vendorsnotwithstanding, Versant enJin has already demonstrated performanceincreases of up to 50 times for our customers deploying high end e-businessapplications," said Christine Caldwell, VP marketing, Versant. Customerstoday can enjoy tremendous performance increases while also reducing newapplication development time by 40%. This can translate to savings of $5million, on development alone, for customers deploying large-scaleprojects."
IDC's Carl Olofson also believes that reliability of the e-business data,what IDC calls "intermediate data" is important to IT managers. "Ascustomers continue to deploy e-business applications on application servers,ensuring the reliability of intermediate data becomes increasinglyimportant," said Carl Olofson, Sr. Research director, IDC. "Intermediatedata is a new type of data used within the middle tier and can be sessiondata such as shopping cart data or meta-data such as a user profile orworkflow data to manage a credit approval process. A product such as enJinis designed to reliably store this data, while still providing automaticupdates of completed transactions to the back-end relational database."
New features in enJin 2.2 include seamless support for JSPs and Servletsenabling the transparent persistence of Java-based objects within themiddle-tier for fast access and processing. Additionally, enJin 2.2 offerstool integration with Borland's JBuilder to enable the design, development,compile, and test of new enJin applications within the IDE.
Subsequent versions of enJin will include tool integration for IBM'sWebSphere Workbench, WebGain's VisualCafe and others. enJin 2.2 is availabletoday for IBM WebSphere and BEA WebLogic on both Microsoft Windows and SunSolaris platforms.
