) confirmed today that it is negotiating to purchase certain assets of CyberGate Inc. and FloridaNet Inc., both hosting subsidiaries of integrated communications firm e.Spire Communications.

CyberGate is also the parent company of Florida-based Web hosting firm ValueWeb (Valueweb.com 👉 Total Reviews: 3

), one of the Internet's oldest and largest Web hosting firms. Established in 1996, ValueWeb hosts 120,000 domains in 136 countries.
e.Spire voluntarily filed for bankruptcy protection in March 2001. Interland entered a bid of $21 million for the company's selected hosting assets Monday, exceeding the bid of e.Spire Chairman George F. Schmitt, who offered $15.5 million in early December. Companies interested in the auction have until 8am on January 7 to submit bids.
Should Interland be successful in its attempt to purchase e.Spire's assets, it would mark the second major acquisition for the company in the past three months. In late October, the company acquired the shared hosting accounts of Web hosting provider Interliant. Interland, which merged with HostPro last year, currently manages more than 300,000 paid Web sites, making it one of the world's largest Web hosting providers.
