Feb, 2002 : Q9 Networks Acquires Largest IDC in Canada
📅 - Q9 Networks Inc. (q9.com -> equinix.com), a Canadian provider of managedInternet infrastructure services, announced it has agreed to purchase theExodus Communications, Inc. Canadian Internet data centre located inBrampton, Ontario. This advanced hosting facility is the largest Internetdata centre in Canada, Q9 says.
Q9, which opened a data centre in downtown Toronto in Sept. 2000, has beenexperiencing significant customer growth and the purchase will facilitateQ9's requirement for additional space, allowing the company to offer itscustomers a broader choice of locations in Ontario. Customers located outside the downtown core or that require large amounts ofphysical space, can now leverage a high security data centre that canaccommodate almost any size footprint, without sacrificing the SLA-backed100 percent network and power uptime guarantees currently provided by Q9.The new centre has redundant power feeds, HVAC, and advanced fire protectionsystems. Multiple layers of security, including video surveillance, securityofficers and biometric authentication systems, will protect the facilityitself. The new facility will be fully integrated into Q9's high availabilitynetwork that connects directly to multiple Internet backbones. The facilitywill also allow Q9 to expand its disaster recovery service with additionalgeographic diversity. "This is an important step forward for Q9," says Osama Arafat, CEO, Q9Networks. "Adding the largest Internet data centre in Canada to our downtownToronto facility and our soon-to-open Calgary, Alberta operation furtherstrengthens our position as the Canadian market leader in managed Webhosting services."
